Before checking how well an organization understands trauma, it helps to learn about the six main ideas of trauma-informed care from the Substance Use and Mental Health Services Administration, or SAMHSA. These ideas should be used by everyone in an organization, from the staff and leaders to the people they help. Understanding an organization's level of trauma-informed practices is crucial because it directly impacts employee well-being, organizational culture, and service delivery. By understanding the current level, organizations can identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to foster a safer, more supportive environment.
This service directory lists individuals and organizations engaged in trauma responsive work. You can use the search function to:
Find individuals and organizations by region, county, sector, and population of focus
Find “Providers”, people that support service recipients and utilize trauma informed principles and practices.
If an organization is not listed in this directory, this guide is here to help people and groups find services about trauma-informed care. It gives some questions you can use to see how well an organization understands and uses the basic ideas of trauma-informed care. The questions aren't complete, but they can help you find the right services for your needs.
